Andile Gumbi suffered cardiac arrest
Last week, Gumbi was rushed to an Israeli hospital in a critical condition after suffering from a cardiac arrest. At the time, he was in the country to star in a production called Daniel The Musical where he plays King Nebuchadnezzar.
His wife flew to Israel to be by his side. The production
revealed at the time that she stayed with him all the time and they hoped her
presence would help him recover quicker.
The musical had to be put on hold for a bit but decided to continue because Gumbi apparently started recovering well.
The statement about Gumbi’s health
The production confirmed the actor’s ill-health with a post on Facebook that read:
“In the early morning he deteriorated and suffered a cardiac arrest, but the medical personnel at Shaare Zedek Medical Centre managed to successfully resuscitate him. His present condition is critical. It is comforting to know that Andile Gumbi is receiving the best medical care in the world as he is fighting for his life and the medical professionals are trying to determine the cause of his condition. We further ask that people pray for his speedy and full recovery.”

A gruesome discovery has left police in Thurrock, in the south-east of the UK, utterly abhorred. A total of 39 people were found dead in the back of a lorry during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Essex.

Essex lorry deaths – latest news and updates
The vehicle is believed to have come from Bulgaria and entered the country at Holyhead in Wales on Saturday, via Northern Ireland. The bizarre circumstances of the deaths – and the roundabout route taken by the driver – are now under a police investigation.
Of all the victims, 38 are believed to be adults and one of the deceased has been identified as a teenager. It has not yet been verified what the intentions of the driver or the 39 travellers were. Andrew Mariner is the Chief Superintendent of Essex Police. He explained the man behind the wheel has been remanded in custody:
“This is a tragic incident where a large number of people have lost their lives. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened. We are in the process of identifying the victims, however I anticipate that this could be a lengthy process. We believe the lorry is from Bulgaria and entered the country at Holyhead on Saturday 19 October and we are working closely with our partners to investigate.”
“We have arrested the lorry driver in connection with the incident, who remains in custody as our enquiries continue. I appreciate this cordon is going to disrupt the activity of local businesses in the area and we will work to ensure that disruption is kept as short as possible. We are working with Thurrock Council to mitigate against any impact our investigation scene will have locally.”
Thurrock: Where was the lorry going?
Conservative Party Cabinet Member Priti Patel has Tweeted her condolences on the matter. The Home Secratry has called for members of the public and the media to allow Essex Police “space to investigate” as they attempt to establish the facts.
Shocked & saddened by this utterly tragic incident in Grays. Essex Police has arrested an individual and we must give them the space to conduct their investigations.

Students, academics and staff at North West University (NWU) are coming to terms with the death of Rudi van der Venter, who passed aware in bizarre circumstances this weekend. The mathematics professor was based on the Potchefstroom campus, and that’s where he met his untimely fate.
What you need to know about North West University
With over 64 000 students registered with NWU – and two other campuses in Mahikeng and Vanderbijlpark – the facility is one of the biggest in the country. They were recently voted as the fifth-best university in South Africa, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Wits and the University of Cape Town (UCT).
It’s been confirmed that the lecturer was found dead in a trench on the premises. Various water pipe repairs are taking place at NWU, and van der Venter was believed to be on his way to his office in the early hours of Saturday morning when he fell into the ditch near Building B10.
North West University professor’s bizarre death
An investigation is now underway, according to North West University Spokesperson Louis Jacobs. He has reasoned that there were plenty of warnings around the various repair sites. It’s noted that the professor fell head-first into the hole, before he was discovered by an employee walking past the scene.
How does a lecturer fall to death in a ditch of a university campus? What kind of hole is this at the NWU?

Rudi van der Venter – What happens with the investigation now?
Jacobs remained tight-lipped on the minutiae of the details, but did express North West University’s “shock and sadness” over the loss of such a well-liked teacher. The 48-year-old was touted to make a big impact in academia, and his death has led to several counselling sessions being offered to those on-campus:
“The university community is quite shocked and saddened at the loss of Mr Venter, especially in such a freak accident. We are unfortunately not able to indicate or speculate on what might have transpired. When the body was found, police were immediately called. The investigation is ongoing”.
Louis Jacobs, NWU spokesperson
A post-mortem will take place to determine the extent of the injuries suffered, and at what point van der Venter was killed. Given that he fell some distance and was discovered in an “unnatural position”, it’s likely that head and neck injuries played a huge part in his demise.
